5 Things You Should Do Before Hiring a Painter

Posted on September 20, 2022

Hiring a professional painter in the Snellville area can save you time, money, and cause you to have much less stress. That being said, it is important that you know who you are choosing when it comes to tackling your painting project. Here are 5 things that us at CertaPro Painters® of East Metro Atlanta think you should know when looking to hire a painter:

 1. Learn How To Prep

Before a painting crew arrives at your house, there are a few things you should do to prepare. For interior projects, we recommend removing all paintings, pictures, wall decorations, blinds, window coverings, and small, fragile objects from or near surfaces that you wish to have painted. Additionally, you should push all furniture to the center of the room.

When it comes to exterior projects, you should remove any items that may be in the work area or anything that may block access areas.

 2. Research Painting Companies

You should trust who you hire as well as get a feel for the kind of work they will do for you. The best way to start is by doing a Google search and then viewing any reviews posted by previous customers. You can also talk to friends and family for recommendations or contact the painting company itself for references. Take your time reviewing the company’s online portfolio, any testimonials, insurance information, and more.

3. Schedule an Estimate

Before hiring a painter, you should receive an estimate for the project they will be doing. At CertaPro Painters® of East Metro Atlanta, we offer free estimates for all of our customers. This includes a free color consultation if you are unsure about what color palette you would like for your home.

Usually during an estimate, you will want to define the scope of your work, determine a budget, and then discuss options to meet you needs. After an estimate with us, you will receive a quote for your painting project, which will not change unless the scope of work changes. If there are changes to be made, we will meet with you to discuss and then approve those changes.

 4. Learn the Painting Process

There are a few parts of the painting process that you should discuss with your estimator before hiring that painting company, such as how the project will be managed, who will be inside your home, and/or what products the painters will be using.

 5. Set Realistic Expectations

The timeline of your painting project can be decided by how big the surfaces you wish to have painted are, the condition of the surfaces, the number of colors you will be using, and how many surfaces will be painted. How easy it is for a painter to access the space can also lengthen or shorten how long the work will take.

Weather can also alter your project timeline, especially when it comes to your home’s exterior. Setting expectations with your project manager is important to make sure everyone leaves satisfied and you remain stress-free while the project is going on.
